ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines -- A former radio broadcaster was gunned down Tuesday morning in downtown Isabela City, Basilan.

Police identified the victim as Faizal Saddalani, a former announcer of DXNO Radyo Communidad based in Isabela City, and currently working as legal researcher under the city administrator’s office.

Police said Saddalani arrived in Isabela City from Zamboanga City and was walking home from the pier when he was shot by unidentified men on a motorcycle along Tugung Street around 7:30 a.m.

Saddalani was hit in the head and died on the spot. The shooting happened a block away from a police substation.

Richard Falcatan, DXNO station manager, said Saddalani used to work with them from 2011 to 2013 as an anchorman before he left to work as a legal researcher for the City Council.

“He was a good man and had no enemies when he was still with us. We were really shocked and saddened by the incident,” Falcatan said.

Police authorities are looking into whether Saddalani's death is work-related.
