MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude 4.9 earthquake shook parts of Mindanao yesterday, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, state seismologists said.
The quake, which occurred at 10:43 a.m., was felt at Intensity 5 in Burgos town and Intensity 4 in Surigao City, Del Carmen and Dapa in Surigao del Norte.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said an Intensity 5 quake is strong while an Intensity 4 is moderately strong.
The quake was felt at Intensity 3 in Loreto, Dinagat Island and Socorro also in Surigao del Norte and Intensity 2 in San Francisco, Southern Leyte as well as General Luna and Tubod in Surigao del Norte.
The quake had a depth of 27 kilometers and was tectonic in origin, Phivolcs said.
The tremor was not expected to generate aftershocks.
