Slain room boy's kin eye foul play

MANILA, Philippines – The relatives of a 21-year-old room attendant, killed in an alleged shootout with police during a drug sting last Friday, sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation yesterday to find out what really happened.

The Manila Police District Station 11 reported that Jezreal David; his friend, Kim Alyson Ocenear and George Yap reportedly engaged police officers in a shootout after they were cornered at the intersection of Delpan and Lara streets at around 11 p.m.

Two .38 caliber revolvers, a 9mm pistol and five sachets of shabu were allegedly recovered from the suspects.

However, David’s parents said he was not a drug user and failed to come home Friday morning after work.

They reported him missing to the MPD Station 11, which denied having detained him.

“However, one of the detainees told us that they saw Jezreal crying inside the detention,” the relative told reporters.

Ashely, David’s mother, said her son suffered five gunshot wounds and Ocenear’s body showed signs of being beaten.

“Which came first? The beating or the shootout?” she asked.

Ashely also said her son did not know Yap, whose family said he was sleeping in his own house when several men took him Friday night.

However, MPD Station 11 chief Superintendent Amante Daro stood by his men’s report and said the operation was legitimate and “there was no rubout.”
