MANILA, Philippines — A landslide in a mountain barangay in Cebu City early Wednesday morning damaged 12 vehicles and a house and prompted the city government to dispatch heavy equipment to clear the area.

The Freeman reported that the landslide happened in Barangay Busay close to dawn.

According to reports, heavy rains in the area loosened the soil and caused the landslide. The Cebu City government has dispatched a response team to the area to help clear the road.

The city has declared a state of calamity in the mountain barangays. The declaration of a state of calamity gives local governments access to emergency funds and freezes prices of basic goods.

Heavy rains brought by the tailend of a cold front have been reported in Cebu and in neighboring Bohol province since Monday. Flooding has also been reported in towns of Lanao del Sur and in Cagayan de Oro City, where commuters were stranded by chest-deep floods on Monday night.

Cagayan de Oro has declared a state of calamity.
