MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE 1 2:20 p.m.) — Tropical Depression Auring has changed speed and direction and is now moving towards Surigao del Norte.
At 1 p.m. on Sunday, the center of "Auring" was estimated at 80 km north-northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 2 p.m. severe weather bulletin.
It is forecast to move northwest at 9 kph.
"Auring" is packing maximum winds of up to 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.
PAGASA said the tropical depression is expected to bring an estimated moderate to heavy rainfall amount within its 300 km diameter.
The state weather bureau warned residents in areas with Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) Number 1 and over the rest of Eastern and Central Visayas against possible flashfloods and landslides.
Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts were also advised not to venture out over the eastern seaboard of Visayas and Mindanao.
The tropical depression is expected to make landfall over Surigao del Sur between Sunday evening and Monday early morning.
