More Negros cops probed for drug links

LIFE'S ESSENCE - Gilbert Bayoran - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – The Negros Island Region police is investigating 10 more police officers for their alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Thirty-one policemen in the region were earlier relieved or transferred to the Cordillera Administrative Region and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao over illegal drugs.

Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban, NIR police director, said 15 of the transferred policemen had been marked absent without official leave for not reporting to their new assignments.

Meanwhile, the National Police Commission filed charges against Senior Supterintendent Ricardo de la Paz, former Guimaras police director, and several other officials for incompetence and gross neglect of duty.

De la Paz is among the 19 Western Visayas police officers on President Duterte’s drug watchlist.
