Torotot Festival to usher New Year in Davao City
DAVAO CITY, Philippines – This city will again welcome the New Year with its Torotot Festival.
More than 10,000 people are expected to gather in Rizal Park here for the blowing of horns as well as street dancing, according to the city government.
Organizers said the winners of the most creative horn, torotot-inspired costume, torotot-inspired cosplay and hip-hop dance contests would each receive P50,000.
This city has been holding the festival since 2002 when the Davao City council passed Ordinance 060-02 or the ban on the sale, use and possession of firecrackers and pyrotechnics.
Violators of the firecracker ban face fines ranging from P1,000 to P5,000 and imprisonment from 20 days to six months. The permits of business establishments are cancelled on the third offense.
