MANILA, Philippines - Several earthquakes struck off the eastern coast of Samar island yesterday.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said earthquakes with magnitudes of 5.2, 4.2, 3.4 and 2.8 occurred before noon.

No damage was reported in relation to the tremors, but state seismologists warned of possible aftershocks.

Phivolcs said the epicenter of the magnitude 4.2 quake, which occurred at 10:32 a.m., was located 54 kilometers northeast of Maydolong, Eastern Samar.

The quake was felt at Intensity 4 in Borongan, Eastern Samar and Intensity 3 in Tacloban City as well as in Palo and Dulag in Leyte and Balanghiga in Eastern Samar.

Meanwhile, the magnitude 5.2 quake struck shortly after 11 a.m. with its epicenter located 17 kilometers southwest of Maydolong. The tremor was felt as far as Tacloban City.
