Quake hits Surigao, Eastern Visayas

MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude 5 earthquake struck off the coast of Surigao del Norte yesterday.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the epicenter of the quake, which occurred at around 9:06 a.m., was located at 31 kilometers northeast of Burgos town in Surigao del Norte.

Phivolcs said the quake was felt at Intensity 4 in Burgos and Intensity 3 in Surigao City and Hinunangan in Southern Leyte.

The tremor was also felt at Intensity 1 in Palo, Leyte; Borongan, Eastern Samar and Catbalogan City, Samar.

Three aftershocks were recorded with the strongest at magnitude 3.5 at around 9:31 a.m.

No damage was reported in relation to the quakes
