MANILA, Philippines — Customers of Maynilad Water Services Inc. in Quezon City will experience an almost two-day water interruption starting December 5 due to its valve replacement initiative in the area.
In a briefing Thursday, Maynilad said there will be a scheduled 43-hour straight service interruption on December 5, Monday, at 8 p.m. until December 7, Wednesday, at 4 p.m.
The interruption will affect 15 barangays and almost 300,000 customers.
Affected areas include Apolonio Samson, Baesa, Bahay Toro, Bungad, Damayan, Del Monte, Katipunan, Mariblo, Paltok, Paraiso, San Antonion, Sangandaan, Talipapa, Tandang Sora, and Veterans Village.
The west zone concessionaire is replacing a defective valve along its 1,200-meter primary line along Tandang Sora Ave in Talipapa, Quezon City to ensure the reliability of its distribution system.
Maynilad said it will take about 43 hours to stop the water flow and insert a line stopper to isolate the valve that will be replaced and install a new valve before allowing the water to flow again.
"We need to this to give way to the installment of the valve in the pipeline in Tandang Sora Ave. We need to replace the valve which has been there since 1980," Maynilad Water Supply Operations head Ronald Padua said.
He added that the purpose of the valve, which is the major valve in the area, is to control water flow, manage water supply and pressure, and avoid further inconvenience in the future.
Maynilad advised its customers to store enough water for the duration of the interruption.
"We also suggest for consumers to start saving up enough water for the scheduled interruption so as not to cause more inconvenience," Padua said.
Meanwhile, Maynilad will deploy 14 mobile water tankers that will deliver free water supply to the affected customers.
The water company also assured consumers that it already coordinated with the local government to manage the possible heavy flow of traffic during its operations.
Maynilad said there will be no more major water interruption in its serviced area for the rest of the month.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It serves the areas of Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, Malabon, and certain portions of Manila, Quezon City, Makati and Cavite.
