Bulacan posts highest drop in dengue cases

MALOLOS, Philippines – The province of Bulacan posted the highest rate of decline in the number of dengue cases in the entire Central Luzon.

Bataan is the only province in the region to register an increase in dengue infections.

Records from the Department of Health-regional epidemiology surveillance unit showed that from Jan. 1 to Nov. 19, dengue cases in Bulacan dropped by 63 percent.

From last year’s 8,715 cases, Bulacan has 3,205 cases this year.

The province of Tarlac ranked second among provinces in the region that posted a substantial decline with 2,250 this year from 5,989 last year or a drop of 62 percent.

Nueva Ecija comes third at 53 percent or from 4,213 cases in 2015 to 2,250 this year.

Zambales posted a 47-percent drop with 1,075 this year from 2,023 last year; Aurora has 35 percent with 442 cases from 684, and Pampanga 29 percent with 5,413 from 7,602 cases.

Bataan registered an increase of 85 percent with 2,565 dengue cases this year from 1,387 in 2015.

The total number of dengue cases in the region is 45 percent lower than last year’s.
