4 drug suspects killed

MANILA, Philippines – Four persons believed to be involved in the illegal drug trade were killed in separate incidents in Metro Manila in the past two days.

Two drug suspects were killed by police in Quezon City.

Police identified the fatalities as Alex Advincula, alias Akong, 33, and Richard de la Peña.

Advincula, who was on the drug watchlist, was killed after he allegedly engaged police in a shootout following a sting at his house along Sampaguita Extension in Barangay Payatas at past 6 p.m. on Saturday.

A police officer reportedly managed to buy P500 worth of shabu from Advincula. Backup operatives were about to approach him when he allegedly opened fire, prompting them to return fire.

Advincula was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police said they recovered a loaded .45-caliber pistol, two sachets of shabu, rolled aluminum foils and the marked money from Advincula.

De la Peña was killed by police in another drug sting in Barangay Bagbag, also in Quezon City.

De la Peña fell from a motorcycle after being shot by police when he and his cohort, known only as Topher, tried to flee.

Prior to this, police said they were able to buy shabu from De la Peña and Topher.

De la Peña was taken to the Novaliches District Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Topher managed to escape.

De la Peña allegedly yielded seven sachets of shabu, a .38-caliber revolver and P500 in marked money.

Renato de Leon, 31, was shot dead at his house in Pier 2, Gate 10, Parola Compound after he allegedly shot it out with policemen who caught him transacting a drug deal with a group of men at around 9 a.m.

Superintendent Thomas Ibay, Manila Police District Station 2 commander, said members of the Delpan community precinct led by Police Officer 3 Ronald Alvarez were on patrol when they saw De Leon allegedly selling shabu in the area.

“They scampered toward different directions when the policemen tried to approach them. De Leon ran to his house, drew a gun and fired twice at police but missed,” Ibay told The STAR.

Probers said they recovered a loaded .38-caliber revolver and five sachets of shabu from De Leon.
