2 vintage bombs extracted in Marikina
MANILA, Philippines - Two vintage bombs were removed from a construction site near a mall in Marikina City yesterday.
The bombs were dug up by workers at the construction site along Kalayaan street, near the C and P Mall in Barangay Marikina Heights, at around 11 a.m. last Wednesday, said Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, Eastern Police District director.
However, the two bombs were extracted yesterday because Meisel Construction, a sub-contractor of the project, reportedly refused to cooperate, he said.
Sapitula described the general purpose World War II bombs as weighing 200 pounds each, two meters long and about 30 to 40 inches in diameter.
The bombs will be brought to the explosives and ordnance division of the National Capital Region Police Office’s Regional Public Safety Battalion for safekeeping and disposal.
