MANILA, Philippines - Farmer-beneficiaries under the government’s Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) can avail themselves of crop insurance under a program of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).
Through a partnership with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. (PCIC), the farmers were informed about low-cost crop insurance packages.
Some 300 farmers’ cooperative officers, administrative staff and members of agrarian reform beneficiaries’ organizations in Agusan del Norte participated in an orientation and training on risk mitigation and agricultural investment and crop insurance education recently.
“Agricultural insurance is anchored on DAR’s agrarian production credit program that empowers eligible beneficiaries to avail themselves of credit assistance coupled with agricultural insurance,” said Luningning Buque-Ycoy of DAR-PCIC .
PCIC resource person Ernesto Chaves said agricultural insurance would mitigate farm losses associated with extreme weather condition such as drought, typhoon and other calamities.
