New Tagbilaran bishop named

MANILA, Philippines – Pope Francis has appointed Monsignor Alberto Uy as the new bishop of the diocese of Tagbilaran.

Uy is the episcopal vicar of the diocese of Talibon and pastor of the St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Jagna town, the CBCPNews reported.

Uy will replace Bishop Leonardo Medroso whose resignation had been accepted by the pontiff.

The diocese is still rebuilding after the 7.2 magnitude quake in 2013 that destroyed dozens of the country’s oldest churches.
