MANILA, Philippines - A still unidentified man was shot by a motorcycle-riding gunman while he was aboard a passenger jeepney in Makati City Thursday afternoon.
According to the Southern Police District (SPD), the victim described to be about 25 years old, was aboard the jeepney along J. P. Rizal Street when the shooting happened at about 1:30 p.m.
Police said the gunman who was aboard the motorcycle being driven by another, appeared as the jeepney reached Ilaya Street.
Police said the gunman and his cohort fled after the shooting which left the victim dead on the spot. Investigators are still determining the motive behind the incident.
In Muntilupa Ciy, meanwhile, an alleged drug pusher was killed in an encounter with police officers earlier.
According to the SPD, suspect Alex Magallanes died immediately after he tried to shoot it out with members of the anti-drug unit of the Muntinlupa police at about 10 a.m. along Anahaw Street in Barangay Alabang.
The police officers were conducting a casing and saturation operation when the shootout happened, the SPD said.
Seized from Magallanes was a caliber .45 pistol.
