Barangay chairman shot dead in Zamboanga del Sur

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines -- A barangay captain was gunned down by unidentified killers in a village in Dinas Town, Zamboanga del Sur on Tuesday.
 
Police Superintendent Rogelio Alabata, spokesperson of Police Regional Office 9 (PRO), identified the victim as Domingo Modesto Costa, 34, chairperson of Barangay Biray.
 
Alabata said the victim was riding his motorcycle home when he was fired upon by gunmen armed with an M16 rifle and cal.45 pistol past midday Tuesday.
 
The victim died on the spot with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Alabata.
 
The killers immediately escaped towards unknown direction.
 
Local police are investigating whether the village chairman's death is related to the anti-drug campaign or is because of a personal grudge.
