Murder suspect dies in shootout with Parañaque cops

MANILA, Philippines -- A man wanted for murder was shot dead by police officers as he was being arrested in his home in Parañaque City on Wednesday night.

According to the Southern Police District, a police team was about to serve an arrest warrant on John Fernandez, alias "Jun Jun", 26, was being arrested by police at his house at Tulips St., Executive Village, Brgy. Sun Valley, at about 8:20 pm when he allegedly resisted.

According to police, Fernandez pulled out a .38 revolver and shot at the police. The police officers returned fire, killing Fernandez on the spot, the SPD said.

Police recovered three heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing shabu and the revolver, which had five live bullets. Also recovered at the scene were two spent 9 mm shells.

Homicide probers are still conducting further investigation of the incident.
