NAGA CITY, Philippines (Bicol Standard) -- The war on drugs in Naga City has shifted to high gear as another buy-bust operation against an alleged notorious drug dealer was carried out Sunday evening, this time by the Naga City Police Office.
The suspect, identified as Amelia Silvestre, 29, was arrested after seven medium-sized plastic sachets containing a substance believed to be shabu were found in her possession at Molave, Barangay Penafrancia.
Also confiscated was P14,000 in cash, which is believed to be drug money.
Noel Balla, a former police officer liusted as absent without leave, was also in the same residence during the buy-bust operation, SPO2 Toby Bongon, information officer of the Naga City police told the Bicol Standard.
Bongon said Balla tried to wrestle with the apprehending officers and tried to draw his cal-.22 firearm during the arrest in an attempt to defend Silvestre.
The gun, loaded with live ammunition, was found to be unlicensed, Bongon added.
Balla was thus arrested for illegal possession of firearms.
The residence is in the same barangay where a raid was conducted on Saturday. Thirteen people were arrested and an estimated P50,000 of shabu was seized in the raid.
Both suspects are being detained at Police Station 3 in Barangay Penafrancia. -- with a report from Boyet Paderes
