Leyte teacher dismissed for sexual abuse

Michael Punongbayan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – A public school teacher in Leyte has been dismissed from government service after a local court found him guilty of sexual molestation.

Salvador Trinidad Jr. of the Palompon National High School was guilty of grave misconduct and meted the accessory penalties of perpetual disqualification from holding public office, forfeiture of retirement benefits and prohibition from taking the civil service examinations, said Deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas Paul Elmer Clemente.

A regional trial court in Barauen, Leyte sentenced Trinidad to a maximum of nine years in prison for sexually molesting a high school student.

“The government cannot tolerate such an abhorrent and morally depraved conduct... an educator is supposed to carry out the noble task of rearing the youth into responsible citizens of this country,” the ombudsman ruling stated.
