North Cotabato farmers get pigs, goats

John Unson - The Philippine Star

NORTH COTABATO, Philippines – Drought-stricken farmers in North Cotabato have received livestock assistance from the provincial government.

At least 103 farmers from Kidapawan City as well as Makilala and Magpet towns each received piglets and a pair of goats for breeding purposes.

North Cotabato Gov. Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza said provincial veterinarian Rufino Sorupia would train the farmers on animal breeding and how to treat diseases that might affect meat and milk production.

A total of 198,760 farmers in Kidapawan City and 11 North Cotabato towns have benefitted from the rice distribution program of the provincial government since April.

Vergelita Guilaran, provincial social welfare officer, said at 19,883 bags of rice have been distributed to affected farmers.
