7 soldiers hurt in grenade attack

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Seven Scout Rangers were injured in a grenade attack in Jolo, Sulu yesterday.

Sgt. Zandro Sambrano, SSgt. Ferdinand Bisnar and Cpls. Juanito Taguiam Jr., Arth Manatad, Arnel Pascual, Louis Limmayog and Calpasi Olli were brought to a hospital at Camp Teodulfo Bautista.

Maj. Filemon Tan Jr., spokesman for the Western Mindanao Command, said the victims were in a military truck when unidentified men lobbed an MK2 grenade along Marina street in Barangay Walled City at around 5:20 a.m.

“They said their truck hit a hard object and seconds later the explosion occurred,” Tan said.

Probers said the Abu Sayyaf could be behind the attack.
