MANILA, Philippines – Former actress and Councilor Cristina “Kring-Kring” Gonzales-Romualdez was proclaimed the new mayor of Tacloban City after scoring a landslide victory in the May 9 polls.
The City Board of Canvassers (CBOC) early Tuesday proclaimed Gonzales-Romualdez as the newly elected mayor of Tacloban City after she obtained 72,077 votes while her rivals Neil Glova and Golda Hilda Cabudoy garnering only 23,612 and 379 votes, respectively.
For the mayoral race, on the other hand, incumbent Vice Mayor Jerry “Sambo” Yaokasin also scored a landslide victory with 71,219 against opponent Ramon Tolibas Jr. with only 6,550 votes.
Meanwhile, another Romualdez, Yedda Romualdez wife of senatorial candidate Rep. Martin Romualdez, won the race in Leyte’s first congressional district against lawyer Fiel Clemencio.
CBOC Chair Susan Collamar led the proclamation of Gonzales-Romualdez at 3 a.m., Tuesday.
Gonzales-Romualdez is the wife of incumbent Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, the nephew of former first lady Imelda Romualdez-Marcos.
