P.5-M reward up for arrest of La Union bombers
AGOO, La Union, Philippines – A P500,000-reward has been offered for the arrest of the perpetrators of the bomb attack on the convoy of La Union second district Rep. Eufranio Eriguel on Saturday.
Eriguel’s driver Jovanne Cacayuran, who was among those wounded in the explosion, died while being treated at the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in San Fernando City on Monday.
Senior Police Officer 2 Jack Baguan, Samuel Ofiaza and Anthony Casem who were in Eriguel’s backup vehicle remain confined in a hospital.
“We are willing to give P500,000 to anyone who can identify the person or persons who masterminded the attempt on my life and the murder of our driver. We urge you to please go to the police for any leads that would direct to the suspects,” Eriguel said in a press statement.
Eriguel said investigators have traced the owner of the motorcycle where the improvised explosive device was planted.
“Investigators have yet to identify the mastermind behind this very cruel and violent act which caused not only the death of my supporter, but moreso, caused terror to the people of La Union,” he said.
Senior Superintendent Angelito Dumangeng, La Union police director, said Eriguel was the target of the attack, adding politics was the likely motive.
Police said the bomb was detonated by remote control. The explosion destroyed Eriguel’s backup vehicle.
