URDANETA CITY, Philippines – More than 1,800 detainees in the Ilocos region are expected to vote on May 9, according to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
Senior Inspector Condralyn Alfonso, operations chief of the BJMP in Region 1, said a majority of the inmates are in Pangasinan jails.
Alfonso said they would provide 13 on-site and seven off-site voting areas for inmates in the Ilocos region.
A total of 42,252 inmates nationwide will be allowed to vote on May 9.
Under Commission on Elections Resolution 9371, detainees can vote at special polling places inside jails or be escorted to vote elsewhere if their registration record is not transferred, deactivated, canceled or deleted.
