Jeepney falls off ravine; 5 dead

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – Five persons died and 24 others were injured when a jeepney plunged into a 20-meter ravine in Barangay Poblacion in Tinglayan, Kalinga on Wednesday. ?

Patricio Daliyong and Sabas Onalan, both 58 years old, who were seated in front of the vehicle, died at the scene.

Anastasia Abaggoy, 55; Virginia Manisim, 57, and Isabel Ladaw died while being treated at the Kalinga Provincial Hospital.

The driver of the jeepney, Salvador Oklod, said he lost control of the wheel as he was driving down the Poblacion-Tulgao road.

Oklod was among the injured, and brought to the same hospital for treatment.

The victims were on their way home after attending a wedding in Barangay Dananao when the accident occurred, said Senior Superintendent Victor Wanchakan, Kalinga police director.
