Ben Serrano - The Philippine Star

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – Suspected members of the Martilyo Gang took close to P5 million worth of jewelry from a shop in Surigao City, Surigao del Norte on Friday afternoon.

The robbers, armed with hammers and guns, barged into the M. Lhuillier Jewelry Store at the Gaisano Capital Mall in Barangay Luna at around 5 p.m., according to city police officer-in-charge Senior Inspector Jeffrey Tamayo.

Two of the robbers served as lookouts as the others disarmed the security guards and broke the glass cabinets containing the jewelry.

The robbers fled on separate motorcycles.

The mall management has submitted to the police copies of video footage taken by closed-circuit television cameras installed in the area.
