LIST: Road closures, alternative routes for EDSA’s 30th Anniversary

MANILA, Philippines – The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the EDSA People Power Commission (EPPC) recently released a traffic advisory in line with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of EDSA People Power.

The MMDA said the previous plan to set up the Experiential Museum along White Plains Avenue was revised and its setup will instead take place inside Camp Aguinaldo.

EPPC then made a schedule regarding the lanes affected by their events as discussed with the MMDA, the Philippine National Police, the Highway Patrol Group, the Quezon City local government and other concerned agencies.

While some roads are scheduled to be closed, eastbound and westbound lanes of Ortigas Avenue will remain open for motorists. 

Schedules, road closures and alternate routes for the 30th EDSA Anniversary appear below:

Feb. 23 to 24, 2016 (Tuesday to Wednesday)

Affected lanes in limited road use of White Plains Avenue:

  •  Lanes 1 to 4 – To be used for the construction of Experiential Museum and preparation for other EDSA 30 activities

  • Lanes 5 to 6 – Open to two-way vehicular traffic

Feb. 25, 2016 (Thursday)

Road Closures:

  • EDSA Northbound of EDSA (Ortigas to Santolan) – Closed from 12:01 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • White Plains Avenue –  Closed from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

Feb 26, 2016 (Friday)

Affected lanes in limited road use of White Plains Avenue:

  • Lanes 1  to 3 (Westbound) – Day 2 of Experiential Museum

  • Lanes 4 to 6 – Open to two-way vehicular traffic

Feb. 27 to 28, 2016 (Saturday to Sunday)

Affected lanes in limited road use of White Plains Avenue:

  • Lanes 1 to 3 (Westbound) – Dismantling of Experiential Museum

  • Lanes 4 to 6 – Open to two-way vehicular traffic

Alternate routes 

  • For White Plains – use Kamias Road, Aurora Boulevard, P. Tuazon, Boni Serrano/Santolan, Ortigas, C5; MMDA will allow thru traffic from White Plains to Temple Drive (No u-turn since White Plains is closed)

  • For EDSA – use McKinley Road/ Kalayaan/ Pioneer to C5, Roxas Boulevard/Quirino/Osmena, Ayala, Buendia, R. Magsaysay Boulevard, Quezon Avenue to go north

  • Start of Counter flow or zipper lane at Guadix Drive

  • Exit of Zipper Lane in Front of Camp Crame Gate


  • Counter flow at EDSA South bound

Primary Route

  • From EDSA northbound, turn right to Kalayaan ave., right turn then u-turn at C5 road straight to Col. Bonny Serrano Avenue, right at EDSA Northbound


Secondary Route

  • From EDSA northbound, turn right to Shaw Boulevard, right turn to Pasig Boulevard, straight to C5 Road, Bonny Serrano Avenue, Right at EDSA northbound


For EDSA Northbound (Mabuhay Lane Route No. 7)

  • Take Estrella, E. Pantaleon Bridge, Barangka Drive, left at Nueve de Febrero, right at M. Martinez Avenue, straight to Gomezville, straight to Hoover, Wilson, left at Ortigas Avenue, Granda, right at N. Domingo, Left at Hemady, right at Scout Tobias, left at Timog Avenue, right at Quezon Ave, Quezon Memorial Circle, right at Visayas Avenue, left at Congressional Avenue, right at Mindanao Ave to destination.


For EDSA Southbound to Northbound

Other routes

  • Osmeña Highway to Quirino Avenue to Nagtahan right at Magsaysay Boulevard, straight to Aurora Boulevard to destination.

  • Roxas Boulevard left at Padre Burgos Avenue, Taft Avenue to Quezon Boulevard, left at Lerma Street Straight to España Boulevard and Quezon Avenue to destination.
