Cop nabbed for violating gun ban
NATIVIDAD, Pangasinan, Philippines – Police officers arrested their colleague for violating the gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections in this town on Saturday.
Police Officer 1 Anthony Saldevar, 27, of the Police Regional Office 3, was collared after he reportedly fired a gun in Barangay Silag.
Concerned citizens informed authorities about the incident, according to Senior Superintendent Edgar Alan Okubo, officer-in-charge of the provincial police.
Responding police officers confiscated Saldevar’s firearm and recovered 12 bullet shells at the scene.
Saldevar was brought to the Philippine National Police-Crime Laboratory Office in Urdaneta City for a paraffin test.
Meanwhile, in Pampanga, police arrested two motorcycle-riding men at a checkpoint in Angeles City for possession of firearms and drugs on Saturday night.
City police chief Senior Superintendent Sidney Villaflor said Rizalino Collantes of Olongapo City and Marco Libo of Dinalupihan, Bataan each yielded a .22 caliber pistol and a handgun of unknown caliber, respectively, and a plastic sachet said to contain shabu.
