DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Three New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed in separate clashes with government troops in Compostela Valley and Camarines Sur on Monday.
Five soldiers were also wounded when they stepped on a landmine on their way to Sitio Lugpaton in Barangay King-King in Pantukan, Compostela Valley. They were identified only as Sgt. Fernandez, Cpl. De Asis and Pfcs. Silagan, Sagario and Dublas.
Maj. Gen. Rafael Valencia, commander of the 10th Infantry Battalion, said one of the rebels was killed in an encounter with members of the 66th IB in Barangay Pagsabangan in New Bataan town.
Two rebels were killed and another was arrested in a clash with members of the 83rd IB in Caramoan, Camarines Sur, said Maj. Angelo Guzman, spokesman for the Southern Luzon Command.
Three M16 rifles, an M653 Carbine, a grenade launcher, three backpacks and three improvised bombs as well as subversive documents, were recovered at the scene.
