LP leader in Surigao slain
BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – A local leader of the Liberal Party (LP) in Surigao del Norte, who was shot last Monday, has died.
Allen Ranay Silagan, 57, LP coordinator in Bacuag town, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, died at the Caraga Regional Hospital in Surigao City on Friday.
Investigation showed Silagan was at a beach resort, where he was the caretaker, when he was shot.
Ryan Orquina, the owner of the resort and LP’s mayoral bet in Bacuag, said Silagan could be the second victim of election-related violence in Mindanao.
Senior Inspector Edgar Macaraeg, Bacuag police chief, said they are investigating if the attack was politically motivated.
Former police officer Danrevel Etac, who was running for councilor in the May elections, was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding men in Placer, Surigao del Norte on Monday.
Authorities said Etac could be the first victim of poll violence in the region.
