P60-M Marina building to rise in Bacolod

Danny B. Dangcalan - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) will construct a P60-million building in this city that will serve as its regional office in the newly created Region 18 or the Negros Island Region.

Angkla party-list Rep. Jesulito Manalo and Marina administrator Maximo Mejia Jr. on Friday signed the contract for the construction of the building in Panaad Park in Barangay Mansilingan.

The contract grants the maritime agency 50 years to use the 2,000-square-meter property of the provincial government in the park and is renewable for another 50 years.

Mejia said the funds for the construction would be sourced from the budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways.

The regional office will bring Marina’s services closer to Negrense seafarers, who go to Manila to process their papers.
