Magnitude 6.4 quake rocks Sarangani
MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude-6.4 earthquake jolted Sarangani shortly after midnight yesterday, state seismologists said.
The quake occurred at 12:37 a.m. and its epicenter was located 313 kilometers southeast of the province. It was felt at Intensity 1 in Alabel, the province’s capital, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
No damage and casualties were reported.
State seismologists said the quake could generate aftershocks, but not a tsunami.
Earthquakes with magnitudes 6 to 6.9 are classified as strong and can cause moderate to severe damage to poorly designed structures, the agency said.
