ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - Government security forces arrested two persons in a village of Sulu for violation of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban after its implementation nationwide.

Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado, commander of the Joint Task Group Sulu (JTGS), said the suspects were identified as Nadzfar Imnaji, 19, and Altano Sahidjuan, 25, both residents of Talipao.

He said the suspects were arrested while passing the checkpoint set by the elements of the 32nd Infnatry Battalion at Barangay Tiptipon, Panglima Estino town about 7:35 a.m. Sunday.

The troops recovered from the suspects a caliber .45 pistol 1911-A1 and a magazine loaded with six live ammunition.

Troops immediately coordinated with the chief of police of Panglima Estino town for the proper filing of charges in violation of the Comelec gun ban.

Arrojado said the implementation of the gun ban will prevent the movements of firearms in the province and would help the government forces in their pursuit operation against the Abu Sayyaf militants.
