Classes in Manila suspended on January 9 for Black Nazarene feast
MANILA, Philippines – The City of Manila on Tuesday announced the cancelation of classes on January 9 to give way for the Black Nazarene feast.
City of Manila Administrator Ericson Alcovendaz said classes will be suspended in all levels on Saturday, January 9.
“Saturday suspended po ang klase... in all levels po ‘yun,” Alcovendaz said in a press briefing.
The local government called off classes as several roads will be closed and there is an anticipated heavy traffic for the forthcoming feast of Black Nazarene where millions of devotees are expected to hold a procession popularly known as “traslacion.”
For this year, the Black Nazarene replica will be brought to the Quirino Grandstand where the route of the procession will start. It will end at Quiapo Church.
The feast of the Black Nazarene is one of the major festivities attended by the Filipino Catholics.
