MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Monday condemned the fatal shooting of an MMDA traffic enforcer in Quezon City.

MMDA Traffic Discipline Office (TDO) Director Crisanto Saruca said traffic enforcer Sydney Role was manning his post at the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and Tandang Sora at about 3:20 am when he flagged down two men who were riding tandem on a motorcycle after it counter-flowed traffic.

After being stopped by Role, one of the men then got off the motorcycle and shot Role twice in the head at close-range with a pistol of still unknown caliber.

The two still-unidentified men sped off after seeing Role bloodied on the pavement.

Members of the Quezon City’s Oplan Discipline who saw the shooting then rushed Role to the East Avenue Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.

MMDA Chair Emerson Carlos said the agency would not be cowed by criminals as he vowed that the MMDA would not let up until Role’s killer is arrested.

“This act of senseless violence shall not go unpunished especially done to a government servant who was just doing his job,” Carlos said.
