ILOILO CITY, Philippines – An 82-year-old man hacked to death his wife at their house in Barangay Borocboroc, Valderama, Antique.
Ebaristo Mariano told police investigators that he was fed up with his 80-year-old wife, who was domineering.
Inspector Horizon Villanueva, Valderama police chief, said witness Genelyn dela Torre saw victim Felicitas Mariano writhing in pain after the couple was heard quarreling at the top of their voices on New Year.
Dela Torre left the scene, even when Ebaristo asked her to come closer. Dela Torre said lovers’ quarrels were common between the two.
The following day, however, Felicitas’ half-brother, Arsenio Ambol, discovered the victim’s body, which bore multiple hack injuries. A police team later caught Ebaristo, who fled on foot, in nearby Bugasong town.
Villanueva said the victim could have been suffering from a mental illness like dementia.
Some of their neighbors claimed that Ebaristo also has a history of nervous breakdown.
Villanueva said a parricide charge was filed against the suspect yesterday.
