MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday said most parts of the country is foreseen to have fair weather with cold mornings until Wednesday.

PAGASA weather forecaster Denison Estareja said the cold weather-associated northeast monsoon or “hanging amihan” affecting Northern Luzon might bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains in Luzon, including Metro Manila.

”The effect of the northeast monsoon concentrates will bring cold mornings in some parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila and the northeast monsoon usually peaks from mid-January to mid-February,” Estareja said.

The northeast monsoon blows into the country from Siberia every mid-October and strengthens every mid-December.

Estareja said due to the northeast monsoon, the public are advised of colder mornings in the coming weeks.

On Saturday morning, Metro Manila recorded its minimum temperature of 22.8 degrees Celsius at 6 a.m while Metro Manila’s Sunday temperature is expected to range from 22 to 30 degrees Celsius.

The weather bureau said there are no weather disturbances likely to develop into tropical cyclone near the Philippine Area of Responsibility until Wednesday.

Estareja added that for the month of January, PAGASA expects only zero to one tropical cyclone to affect the country.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said there will be cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms over the provinces of Cagayan and Aurora while Ilocos Region, Cordillera, and the rest of Cagayan Valley will experience cloudy skies with light rains on Sunday.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains while Visayas and Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Luzon will have moderate to strong winds coming from the northeast to east while the rest of the country will experience winds that are light to moderate blowing from the northeast with slight to moderate seas. On the other hand, moderate to rough seas will prevail over Luzon’s coastal waters.
