SUBIC BAY FREEPORT, Philippines – Aerial rides at the Subic Bay Fiesta Carnival were suspended yesterday after a roller coaster malfunctioned on Monday night, leaving 20 riders hanging upside down for more than an hour.
Solomon Jacalne of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) health and safety department said all aerial rides are suspended until post-incident inspections are done.
The SBMA also demanded an explanation from the operators of the amusement park.
No one was reported injured, but the riders criticized the operators of the amusement park and responders from the SBMA for taking time to pull riders to safety.
Subic Enerzone, a power company, provided a bucket truck to rescue the riders.
Mark Ethan Joshua Lapuz, who witnessed the incident, said the Superloops Ride suddenly stopped around 8 p.m.
”The riders were left hanging because the operators were unable to move the ride,” Lapuz said.
