MANILA, Philippines – Police have identified and filed charges against two suspects in the ambush of members of a local ABS-CBN news crew in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur on Saturday.
Yusop Sangcad and Nasser Masurong, both residents of Barangay Lilod Madaya were charged with attempted murder before the city prosecutor’s office, Philippine National Police chief Director General Ricardo Marquez said yesterday.
“Sangcad and Masurong were identified by witnesses. We created a task group to conduct further investigation...and to arrest the suspects,” Chief Inspector Parson Asadil, Marawi police chief, said.
The news team was in Marawi to gather updates on Thursday night’s bombing of a steel power relay pylon of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines in Ramain, Lanao del Sur when motorcycle-riding gunmen attacked them.
Reporters Ronnie Enderes, cameraman Emilito Balansag and driver Garry Montecillo were unhurt, but the shooting damaged their vehicle.
