Fire in Boracay causes blackouts

MANILA, Philippines — A big fire that struck residential houses in Boracay Island Station 3 on Christmas Eve resulted to power outage.

The fire caught some 100 houses and some commercial establishments in Sitio Ambulong, Barangay Manoc-Manoc, Aklan at around 10:30 a.m., the Philippine Information Agency in Western Visayas reported.

Residents and firefighters rushed to the affected area to help control the fire, however, strong winds hampered the efforts.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire and its damages.

Several foreign and local tourists are in Boracay island to have a vacation in Boracay this Yuletide season. This was the second recorded fire in the island this year.
