ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A man detonated a grenade, killing himself and his companion and wounding four children in a coastal village in this city on Friday.

Danilo Ocampo and Boyo Mohammad died at the scene, while Romelyn, 12; Jomarie, 10; James, 9, and Roger, 7, all surnamed Ramos, were taken to the hospital for treatment, according to Chief Inspector Joel Tuttuh, spokesman for the Zamboanga City police.

Tuttuh said after Ocampo’s wife left him, he got a grenade and removed its pin at their home in Barangay Patalon.

The children were playing near Ocampo’s house when the incident occurred at around 10:40 a.m.

Probers said Ocampo and his wife figured in a quarrel, prompting the woman to leave him.
