CATBALOGAN, Philippines – Members of the Army’s 8th Infantry Division have seized a New People’s Army (NPA) camp in the hinterlands of Samar, an official reported on Thursday.
Two soldiers were wounded in a firefight with rebels manning the area, Lt. Col. George Domingo, commanding officer of the 87th Infantry Battalion (IB), said.
Domingo said an undetermined number of rebels were killed or wounded, citing the bloodstains along the NPA’s route of withdrawal.
Assorted guns, landmines, generator set, medical equipment, medicine, food and subversive documents were recovered from the NPA lair.
“The successful operation was the fruit of the partnership between the 87th IB and the local government units of Pinabacdao and Calbiga headed by their respective local chief executives and the residents safeguarding their communities,” Domingo said.
