SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Philippines – Four women centenarians received P100,000 each from the city government during yesterday’s Christmas program honoring senior citizens here.
Mayor Pablo Ortega handed over the cash to Masa Sobreno of Barangay Baraoas, Elena Valdez of Barangay Pao Norte, Maria Ducusin of Barangay Tanqui and Elena Martinez of Barangay Biday.
Sobreno and Valdez are both 110 years old and Ducusin and Martinez are 102 and 100, respectively.
Sobreno is still capable of walking, while the three others use wheelchairs.
Aside from Ortega, the ceremony was attended by Natividad Pelaez, chairperson of the Federation of Senior Citizens Association Inc.; Sally Matoza, city social welfare officer, and Erlinda Casuga, federation vice chairman.
