BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – Mountain Province will soon enjoy free wireless Internet service.
The Department of Science and Technology through its Information and Communication Technology Office (DOST-ICTO) will put up Wi-Fi hotspots in the province under its public Wi-Fi program for third to sixth class municipalities and provinces.
DOST-ICTO Tech4ED national project manager Maria Jillian Panganiban said free Wi-Fi would be available in municipal and barangay halls, plazas, schools, government offices, hospitals and rural health clinics.
DOST-ICTO Assistant Secretary Nicolas Ojeda Jr. said the free Wi-Fi project is seen to promote grassroots development and opportunities for inclusive growth and poverty reduction.
The project, which is expected to provide free WiFi coverage nationwide by the end of 2016, has a P1.408 billion allocation under this year’s budget.
