MANILA, Philippines - Five Chinese tourists earlier reported missing during a diving excursion in Negros Oriental have been rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

The PCG headquarters said divers of the Dumaguete Coast Guard station rescued Xuan Meng, 33; Maling Yuw, 33; Ding Jia, 36; Igi Chuan, 31; and Rug Ni, 28.

Reports said on Nov. 30, the five rented a motorboat and sailed toward Apo Island in Dauin for a diving expedition.

Tour guide George Regalado said he decided to call for help after the tourists failed to return to the area where they have left him.

The PCG-Dumaguete station dispatched a team of divers from the special operations group to search for the tourists.

The team spotted the five floating some miles away from the dive spot.

The tourists were brought to the Protected Management Board office on Apo Island. They said strong currents carried their boat away from their destination.
