Village chief, ex-soldier gunned down

CABANATUAN CITY, Philippines – A village watchman and a retired Army soldier were killed in separate shootings in Nueva Ecija on Saturday.

Tony Concepcion of Barangay Baloy in Cuyapo town was shot by a drunk man whom he prevented from creating trouble at a party in the village.

Concepcion was declared dead on arrival at the hospital due to five gunshot wounds.

The suspect, identified as Michael Laweg, fled after the incident.

Meanwhile, retired Army sergeant Rodolfo Valeroso, 59, was checking his car in Barangay Cawayang Bugtong in Guimba town when he was shot by motorcycle-riding men.

Investigators recovered three bullet shells for a 9mm pistol, two grenades and a .45 caliber pistol from the crime scene.
