SUBIC BAY FREEPORT, Philippines – A janitor and a former pedicab driver were among the 10 outstanding freeport workers who received awards for their exemplary performance and contributions to their job.

The awarding is one of the most significant part of the 23rd anniversary celebration of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, according to SBMA chairman Roberto Garcia.

“These outstanding workers represent the dedication and heroism of the more than 100,000 skilled and English-speaking workers in Subic Bay Freeport today who are loyal, competent and credible,” Garcia said.

Among the awardees were janitorial attendant James Elago of the Subic Bay Workers/Volunteers Multi-Purpose Cooperative Inc. and Jonathan Beduya, a former pedicab driver who rose to become an information and communications technology supervisor.

Other awardees were Jomar Ramos, Meldrid Mendoza, Lenie Manalili, Geraldine Lustre, Joel Galang, Medelyn Clavo, Bobby Arabe and Ruth Adoremos.

The workers were honored in a ceremony held on Wednesday at the Subic Bay Arts Center by the Subic Bay Workforce Development Foundation Inc. (SBWDFI).

The foundation was established by Subic-based business locators to honor and recognize the best Freeport workers who have shown discipline, dedication and excellence in their work.

SBMA labor department manager and SBWDFI president Severo Pastor Jr. said the 10 awardees were selected from among hundreds of nominees screened by labor officials.
