ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Combined forces of the military and police captured a member of the Abu Sayyaf group in the local wharf of Jolo, Sulu.
Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado, commander of the Joint Task Group Sulu (JTGS), identified the suspect as Saddam Jailani, a follower of Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Alhabshy Misaya.
Arrojado said Jailani was arrested at Jolo Pier about 2:40 p.m. Friday by joint forces of JTGS composed of 2nd Marine Brigade, 35th Infantry Battalion, Special Action Force and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police.
Jailani was positively identified as one of the members of Abu Sayyaf group sub-leader Misaya who was behind the kidnapping of two Malaysians and Korean nationals.
The suspect was arrested by virtue of two warrants of arrest issued by Judge Alexander Acosta of the Regional Trial Court, 7th Judicial Region, Branch 9 in Cebu City.
Jailani was placed under the custody of the CIDG for further interrogation.
