Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - Seventeen people were injured in a three-vehicle smashup along the highway in Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur on Wednesday morning, police said yesterday.

Chief Inspector Rogelio Alabata, information chief of the Police Regional Office 9, said a hauler truck, a passenger jeepney and a delivery van of the Philippine Postal Corp. (PhlPost) were involved in the accident.

Investigation showed the hauler truck driven by Lucio Renado, 57, was traveling to Pagadian City when its brakes malfunctioned.

Renado lost control of the wheel and hit the jeepney and the PhlPost delivery van before it crashed into a mini grocery store.

Alabata said the drivers and passengers of the truck and jeepney were brought to a hospital for treatment.
